Microcryptovenator vorax

El zorro isleño (Microcryptovenator vorax) es uno de los descendientes de mayor tamaño del Fossa fossana. Tiene el tamaño de un pequeño zorro. Se ha adaptado a una vida mayoritariamente terrestre, aunque también sube a los árboles para cazar. Ocupa el nicho de los zorros en la isla, aunque normalmente habitan lejos del auténtico cánido Palulatrator indagatrix, un descendiente del perro, para evitar competencia.

Su cuerpo es esbelto, con patas cortas comparadas con el tamaño del cuerpo. Su cabeza, de color oscuro, posee unas orejas muy agudizadas, unos ojos adaptados a la oscuridad, un olfato muy sensible y una mandíbula estrecha, con la que se alimenta de invertebrados, anfibios, aves, lémures, frutas y demás. Su pelaje punteado es un buen camuflaje en las selvas y sabanas de la isla. Es un animal esquivo y solitario.
