Gigantolemur ingentis

El gigantolémur de vientre plateado (Gigantolemur ingentis) es la mayor especie de gigantolemúrido que ha existido, y también el lémur de mayor tamaño. Es del tamaño de un gorila y su morfología es bastante similar. Su cráneo presenta una cresta sagital que sirve de ancla a unos músculos masticatorios increíblemente evolucionados. Se sirve de estos músculos para masticar una amplia variedad de frutas, hojas y ramas. Se está alimentando durante casi todo el día para acumular la energía necesaria para mover su colosal cuerpo (unos 150kg). Sus brazos y piernas son muy robustos y fuertes. Con ellos soportan su cuerpo al andar y al trepar a los árboles, aunque no suban mucho. A diferencia de otros lémures, el gigantolemur no tiene depredadores naturales.El tamaño del gigantolemur y su fuerza ahuyentan a cualquier depredador. Solamente las crías son atacadas por los descendientes de las mangostas. Su pelaje marrón granate es más oscuro en la cabeza, y se va aclarado conforme se acerca a la tripa, donde adquiere un color blanco plateado. También tienen el trasero plateado, muy vistoso, rodeado por una línea negra con el fin de comunicarse con el grupo en la espesa selva.  Las crías son totalmente marrones.

Viven en grupos no muy grandes compuestos por una hembra dominante, otras tres o cuatro hembras y dos machos, encargados de cuidar a las crías. Se comunican entre ellos con sonidos graves, chillidos o golpes. Mientras que los adultos se pasan el día comiendo en el suelo, las crías juegan y suben a los árboles, ya que pesan poco y sus brazos están más adaptados a trepar que los de los adultos. Conforme vaya creciendo, sus brazos se harán más gruesos y pesados, y multiplicará su peso, por lo que solamente trepará a los árboles (lo suficientemente grandes para aguantar su peso) para alimentarse.

Giant gigantolemur (Gigantolemur ingentis) is the largest species of gigantolemurid that has existed, and also the largest lemur. It's the size of a gorilla and its morphology is quite similar too. The skull has a sagittal crest that serves as an anchor to a incredibly evolved masticatory muscles. It uses these muscles to chew a wide variety of fruits, leaves and branches. It is feeding for most of the day to accumulate the energy required to move its colossal body (about 150kg). Their arms and legs are very sturdy and strong. With them, the gigantolemurs can support their body to walk and to climb trees, although not rise much. Unlike other lemurs, it hasn't got any predators. The size and strength of the gigantolemur scare off any predators. Only the young are attacked by the descendants of the mongoose. The reddish, brown fur is darker on the head, and goes more clear as it approaches the gut, where it acquires a silvery white color. They also have the silver, very ornate back, surrounded by a black line in order to communicate with the group in the thick jungle. Pups are completely brown.

They live in small groups with a dominant female, three or four females and two males, caregivers for the young. Communicate with each other with bass sounds, squeaks or knocks. While adults spend their days eating on the floor, the pups play and climb trees, as they weigh little and their arms are more suited to climbing than adults. As they grow, the arms will be thicker and heavier, and multiply the weight, so it will only climb trees (large enough to hold your weight) to feed.
